[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I couldn't find out a great deal about this butterfly on the net, but I do know it comes in several forms of which I have images of three of those forms. It's natural habitat is Central and South America. That's about all I know except it's Latin name is Heliconius erato.

I did find it very interesting trying to photograph the butterflies in the conservatory. I came armed with with my 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS lens on my camera and my 100-400mm in my camera bag....little did I know that the best lens for this place would have been my 24-70mm f/2.8 L as I had to keep backing off from the butterflies with the 70-200mm and never took the 100-400mm out of the bag. It is also difficult to shoot with a wide DOF to get the butterfly wing tip to wing tip in focus and not out of the DOF because you need to shoot them at such a high shutter speed. It was quite a challenge for me, but I like that as this is how I learn. Because this Small Postman is just that ( small ) I could shoot wide open f/2.8 and have the whole butterfly in that DOF.

Hi Lesley,

I'm inspired by this shot to try using my 70-200 f4 in a greater capacity. This is a beautiful shot, great colour and composition. The DOF turned out really well.

This is sensational, Lesley! The clarity is amazing and having the butterfly shadowed on the leaf and in the air is a wonderful image. Great composition, lighting, color, and detail. I'd say it was perfect, thank you for sharing it.

Lesley, it's such a nice photograph that it's almost like if it was a painting, you did a wonderful job keeping those great colors in focus. You can see that you don't have an aboundance of DOF, just enough for the subject. You did a fantastic job, thanks for sharing it.

Spectacular focus on this beautiful butterfly and its shadow. The DOF is perfect. It makes the composition. Well done.

Just amazing, perfect, can´t say anymore... so that i ´ve added to my favorites...

Belle et intéressante composition photographique pour ce superbe papillon. Jolies couleurs et bonne netteté grâce à la profondeur de champ bien maitrisée.

This is beautiful Lesley. Razorsharp details (on bot the butterfly and the leaf) and superb colors. Very well done! TFS!

la composition est superbe, il manque un peu de lumiere et la pdc est un peu trop courte.

beautiful image! as usual, Lesley! sensual and soft! congrats.

This photo is fantastic. You have managed to catch a butterfly in flight so perfectly and so artistically. The DOF is right on. The details are so sharp. The shadow of the wing on the leaf creates 3D impression. This photo has to be one of my favourites on TN.
