[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Canary (Serinus canaria) sometimes called the Island Canary, Wild Canary or Atlantic Canary, is a small bird in the finch family.

This bird is native to the Azores, the Canary Islands, and Madeira. The bird was named after the Canary Islands, not the other way around. The origins of the name "Canary" are in dispute but may be derived from the Latin canaria, "of the dogs", referring to the numerous dogs kept by the inhabitants of the islands.

It is 12.5-13.5 cm long, with a wingspan of 20-23 cm and a weight of 15-20 g. It is yellow-green, with brownish streaking on its back. It is about 10% larger, longer and less contrasted than its relative the Serin, and has more grey and brown in its plumage and relatively shorter wings. The song is a silvery twittering like the Goldfinch.(wikipedia)

Why did I not know you were taking your time on this upload because you worked it up well and have presented as only you can. It reminds me of a captive bird I once had as a child...but perhaps the years have fogged my memory a bit....

Bob Pacific NW Wilderness-Where Everyone is welcome.

Hi Lawhill,

I've never seen a wild canary before! I never realized they in the finch family but the beak proves that. Wonderful colors and details - even a sparkle in the eye. Nice pose. The yellow looks wonderful against the dark background.

That is very nice for 500mm. Impressive work for the lens. I like the shadows and the detail in colours.

Hello Lwahill,
this bird I only know from the pet store .. as he does not come as far north ;-) ; nice seeing it in in the wild.
Lovely shot, the dark BG does show this bird off very well.
Excellent colors and lovely sharp details.
Very well done.

What a very yellow birdie! You really bring that out with the repeated color in the frame. Great color and detail within that color.

Hi Lawhill,
Majestic looking yellow Canary. Brilliant colours and fine exposure inspite of the harsh lighting. Superb details on its plummage and the almost back BG is enhancing the beauty of the bird perfectly. I like your POV and its elegant pose. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
