[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Perhaps this is a Carolina mantis, Stagmomantis carolina, which is found in this area. Those can be a brown color. It's not a very formidible specimen, leading me to think that maybe it's a juvenile.

This is the only mantis I've seen this year. Of course, they don't make it a practice to be seen.

This image doesn't show the forearms very well, but I think the eye contact is good here. He was fascinated with the camera.

Hope you enjoy!

Good morning, my upstairs neighbour!
I really like your PoV and composition here and the colours are superb!
I have seen a number of mantis shots where the critter is looking straight into the lens. I wonder whether they think they're looking into a giant eye?

Hello Reid,
Good light, and the resulting details are clear and sharp!
It is always interesting to study how the insect uses the legs...
Good colours and a nice presentation!

bien vu,il fallait avoir l'oiel pour decouvrir cette mante.
j'aime beaucoup sa pose et la netteté est assez bonne.
le BG comporte un peu de bruit qui aurait pu etre supprimé.

Hi Reid,
Wonderful shot and a great 'eye contact'. Superb lighting and I like the way it hangs itself there. The BG looks fine and it highlights the subjects well. Very neat and sharp image. Excellent POV to portray it and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Reid,
I can imagine that these long, stick-insect-like mantises can be well camouflaged and not easily seen. You did well to spot this one and capture it looking at you like that. Nice composition and BG and though not totally sharp this is an appealing shot.
TFs and enjoy your weekend.

Hello Reid, unusual pose for a mantis, lovely colors and beautifull background, Good point of view and I like so much his look into your lens

I think they are addicted to cameras..and we think we are the only ones with archetypes. Nice shot. He looks half baked...very interesting color and detail is fine.

Hello Reid,
great exposure and focus on the Mantis and is a good close up with clarity, real colour and details
very well done and well seen
have a wonderful weekend

YOu're right about the eye contact - it makes the shot. The fact that it is so well hidden demonstrates the mantis's ability to blend into its surroundings. Great!
