Gulf Fritillary
Agraulis vanillae (Linnaeus, 1758)
In going through my Septeber folder I noticed that it was getting harder for me to get good photos on the butterfly bush in my front yard. As the sun was getting lower in the sky, the light on my butterfly subjects was getting poorer and poorer. This shot was taken at another garden spot that I ventured out to. The light blurred background is natural here. The butterfly was pearched on a tall Mexican Sunflower that was rather tall. The location was on a slope and the distant background was quite far off.

In this photo I did some croping and adjusted light regions slightly to enhance the antenna.

Thanks for taking a look.

Paul

HI paul,

Good morning. Fine picture of this butterfly despite the difficult light condition. The blurry BG is make the pic perfect. TFS.

Hello Paul,
A super shot of this beautiful Fritillary. The detail is superb, it has that 3D look to it. The colors are vivid and natural and the exposure is right on the money. Excellent!!

Hallo Paul
Beautiful colours and details obtained in this image, not only that of the butterfly but also of the flower the butterfly is resting on. I like the natural sunlight in this image very much as it lightens up the beautiful colours and detail on the wings of this lovely butterfly. It is almost as if the very light backdrop "pushes" both the subjects to the front and it looks as if it going to go right through my computer screen. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.

Hello Paul,
A very nice capture of a Gulf fritillary on a Mexican sunflower. The POV shows its features in the open wing position with excellent sharpness and lighting with the natural colours looking good against the neutral BG.
Thanks for sharing this,
Ivan

THIS ONE IS HONESTLY HARD TO BEAT. MY FIRST THOUGHTS WERE "TOO BAD IT DIDN'T HAVE A PALE GREEN OR YELLOW BACKGROUND. THEN I THOUGHT WITH THE BACKGROUND AS GREY AS IT IS, IT DRAWS THE ATTENTION BACK TO THE BUTTERFLY AND FLOWER. YOU CAN TRY TO FOCUS ELSEWHERE, BUT YOU ARE ALWAYS DRAWN BACK. GOOD JOB...
