[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I spotted this pretty little female Widow Skimmer perched on some grasses while visiting a park in Tulsa. The males are very similar in appearance, except they have broad white bands running across the middle of each of it's wings.

They are considered a percher, because of their habit of perching obliquely on plant stems. Males can be extremely teritorial while near water, and the most dominant males usually win the favor of the females.

They are found near ponds, streams and slow moving water, although at times they are spotted well away from a water source.

I used my Canon 200MM f/2.8 telephoto lens & tripod.

Hi Ron,
What gorgeous skimmer. Great job in getting perfect focus through the grass. Great orange colors on her and those patch wings are awesome. What a wonderful species.

Hello Ron,
Once again a lovely image of a very interesting insect.
Excellent colors, great sharp details and perfect focus.
I tried many times to take a good shot to this lovely insect near a little river but without success.
This insects are very shy and fly away quickly.
Marius.

Excellent photo, nice lighting and background and good details. Interesting dragonfly. regards yiannis

Good shot Ron...a classical composition and fine simplicity! If I may ask, how do you compare the 70-200mm f/2.8L lens at f/2.8 -200 to the fixed Canon 200mm f/2.8L lens?
Regards,
George Veltchev

Bonjour Ron,
Excellente photo,
Cette libellule prend la teinte de son environnement mais s'en détache par un très bon éclairage.

Nice spot, I'm just amazed of your patience and luv for these creatures/insects. Your equipment/investment 5D Mk II and 200mm 2.8 makes it all worth while, but then again YOu have a great Eye. Tks for the comments on my photos. Have a great weekend. (I'm in NYC for a month)
