As a young boy I remember watching many scary movies on TV where someone sleeping wakes up with a scorpion slowly crawling up their bed sheet, the victim usually was bitten and died.

Therefore I had always believed that a scorpion bite was always fatal and they were as dangerous as a deadly venomous snake, I have since learned differently. Most scorpion stings are extremely painful, but rarely does the victum die.

While visiting friends in Oklahoma this past summer I was fortunate enough to see my very first scorpion, the Striped Bark Scorpion. I learned that they were more of an unwanted pest then a threat to home owners. Usually when discovered in a home, the owner calls the local pest control man to rid them of this scary looking creature.

They are from 1 to 3 inches long and live in desert like areas. This particular species delivers a very painful sting when threatened or bothered, but otherwise is not all that bad a creature.

Due to the very dry weather this year in the southwestern US., many homes were invaded by this little visitor.

Hello Ron,
Though, as often for scorpions, the BG is busy and complicated, you managed a fine capture from a good POV taken with excellent sharpness and natural colours, the use of flash providing highlights that help to show this Striped Bark Scorpion up well.
Thanks for sharing this interesting image with a good note that adds interest and knowledge.
Have a good Sunday,
Ivan

Interesting subject and great macro Ron! Very good composition, wonderful colors and impressive sharpness!

Hello Ron,
I always believe that scorpion bites are always fatal, until today :-)
This is a nice capture of one under excellent lighting and details.
Thanks and have a great weekend,

Great image of this scorpion Ron! I very much like the "shine" on its back and the clarity of the tang. The light in the image is great, highlighting everything that needs to be highlighted. Great composition and close to the eye point of view. Thanks for sharing a very interesting subject. Best regards.

Absolutely amazing colors and nice composition.
The light and exposure are perfect as usual.
Thanks for sharing!
Marius.

Good work Ron, we have this same small species here..
I have been stung once or twice when they actually got in the house.
The sting's not that bad as you say, not much worse than a bee.
It's that surprise factor when you put your shoe on that's the fun part :)

Hello Ron,
It requires a great courage in following a scorpion for a good shot. You did very well.
