Great Egret

A large white heron, the Great Egret is found across much of the world, from southern Canada to South America, and in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Australia. It has long black legs and feet.

Population went down by 95% when in the late 1800s and early 1900s plume hunters beagan to kill them. The birds were protected by law after this period.

From South Carolina, where spring has already started its work. Birds are nesting, mating; flower trees are blossoming out…and great egrets make my delights. Second post.
This one was taken in the Audubon Swamp Garden in Charleston.
Cropping and resizing for TN was done.

Workshop shows the original without cropping; interesting to see the position of the nest above the water: Original-Full Frame

Oh my gosh! What a fantastic picture of this great egret, with its feathers all fluffed up, building its nest. One of those dream nature shots. How did you manage to be on eye level with it? Great detail and composition. Thanks, Rene! : )

Stunning capture, the exposure seems to be spot on and the clarity of the Egret is fantastic. Seeing the eggs in the nest really adds to the shot. Thanks for sharing and well done.

It is true, it is a fantastic picture and if I do half as good with the Blue Heron colony we have here, I'll be more than happy. I can see why they almost disappeared, beautiful plumage. Very sharp and detailed picture as always.

Bravo Rene

Great capture, good details and POV. A closer view would have been better IMO.
Well done.

Great capture of this delicate bird. It looks very similar to my Little Egret. all soft and fluffy.

I like this photo, the bird in its natural environment.

Jolie scène de vie. Belle brise et bonne composition.

It is amazing to me that such creatures in the wild or captivity can appear so maternal when it is time to do so. This is a beautiful image Rene. You have managed to capture the spirit of the scene with good detail, lighting and interesting note. Thank you.

Halo Rene!
This is wonderful, your egret! Looks so charm, so cute, so pretty. I love its beauty and sensitivity.
