At Lake Wateree in South Carolina, every time I visit I see SCADS of birds. Egrets, herons, cranes, vultures.. I guess this one is an egret. I am not too schooled in the scientific names of different species. This guy, though, was just YARDS from me. The first time I'd had the opportunity to get so close. I was thrilled. A friend of mine said he thought the bird looked kind of beat up, but it was just a breeze ruffling his feathers.

Hello Shelly,
What I like most here are those impressive tones of colors and exposure. Contrast is beautiful between this white beautiful bird and dark water. You caught him in a good POV and composition. Thanks!

Hello Shelly
J'aime beaucoup le plumage de cet oiseau qui pose fièrement et gracieusement. L'éclairage et les couleurs sont parfaits.

Merci et bonne soirée....JP

Hello Shelly,

What a great composition you present here! You used the rules of thirds very nicely and placed the subjects along the right hand third. The empty space was also correctly distributed, allowing the bird plenty of space to look into. Exposure was also well controlled in spite of the very dark background that could have fooled your camera's sensor. The tangent sunlight created dramatic shadows emphasizing textures in both tree trunk and egret. The subject contrasts nicely with the dark water that makes a perfect background. The sun must have been strong since it allowed you to use 1/250th of a second at such a small aperture. You did a fine job both technically and artistically. Thank you!

With Friendly Regards,
