......The mighty jaws of this big male brown/grizzly bear.
I did'nt see the fish smile because the head is under water already, but I'm sure he did :)

Shot taken on top of Brooks Falls at Katmai National Park in Alaska while standing about 12 feet high on the platform wich specially is build for photographers so they don't disturb the bears and more than that, the bears don't disturb the photographers :)

This salmon, I think it's called a Steelhead or Steelhead trout or Rainbow trout (Oncorhychus mykiss), was lucky enough he did escape.

Every year at the end of June salmon run does start in and around NakNek Lake and Brooks River and will last untill the end of July or beginning of August.

The salmon run is the time at which salmon swim back up the rivers in which they were born to spawn. Pacific salmon spawn and then die, while Atlantic salmon winter over in deep spots in the river and try to return to the sea to recover in the spring and return to spawn again in two years. The annual run is a major event for sportfisherfolk and photographers.

Thanks in advance for taken a look and comments are welcome.

Kindest regards, Harry

Hola Harry.- Aqui otra bella y fina foto. Felicidades Luis52.

Hi Harry, saw this on your web-site and was so impressed.

Super action shot and you can't help but feel sorry for the bear missing that salmon. He's got some terribly injuries too, a run in awith a rival no doubt.

The quality of this image shows what separates a keen amateur from the pros!

Hi Harry,

I love your pictures of the bear on the waterfalls. It's nice to see another one. Wonderful colors and details on the bear and the water. Poor thing lost his fish - did he catch it again?

Hi Harry,

Sharp and well composed.
Very well done,

The bear is a fighter. its neck is damaged.
Your shot is perfect as per light colors and composition.

Hi Harry,
This a great shot perfect timing in your side,
nice water texture, how you say, it can see the smile
on the fish face, resamble many moments of life, nice POV
TFS. Best regards/Lawhill

Excellent action capture Harry.
I just watched a documentary on animal planet with five of these bears in the shot. They sat at the top of some falls just like this, catchin' them on the fly...
As I remember, the salmon can jump up to 5 meters in height..Very well done.

It must be nice to have that platform overlooking breathing scenes from nature such as the one you captured. Nice action, outstanding colors, great composition.

Hi Harry,
Awesome action shot. Perfectly composed and framed. Some great quality light her. The colors and detail in this are superb.
I have observed alot of shots taken from that deck, but I never tire of them and each one is so unique. Great camera work.

Hi Harry,
Clasic shot, amazing action and timing.
Very well done. Congratulations!
Regards, Mario

Hi Harry
Difficult to say which of the 3 pictures is the best. I really like the facial expression of the bear. He is not amused about this escape!

Hi Harry,
Great photo, wonderful action. It also looks like this bear has seen some action, it appears to have scars on its neck.
good shot,

Hoi Harry,
Erg mooi qua details and belichting.

A Fantastic series of bear images, showing some great paws on fishing technique of the Alaskan inhabitants. The exposure is excellent showing very nice natural colors and pin sharp details. Very nice Harry. :)

Hello Harry,
How could I missed this superb shot, you were lucky to live a such scene. Great action shot. Is it a scar on the neck of the teddy bear ?
Congratulations and thanks for sharing with us.

Hello Harry,
you have a lot of amazing photos, well done but above all with extraordinary subjects. The death of an animal (every animal) mke me sad, but nature is that sometime the salmon is smiling, & sometimes the grizzly...
Have a nice Sunday,

Hi Harry,

nice moment capture, beautiful colors of the bear.

j'aime beaucoup SUPERBE IMAGE

Fantastic decisive moment, Harry.

Hello Harry,
First of all I must say I love your Alaska pictures! I'd love to go there someday, but as I am a little afraid of bears that would need some courage ;-)
Anyway, this shot is very classic I would say, but I bet it wasn't so easy to take. Congrats on the timing. The quality of the picture is very good and the lighting spot on.

What a shot!
Looks like to watch Discovery Channel on cable TV! !!

How long are you allowed to stay on the platform?

I am awed. The action, detail, and intent of this bear are excellent. I love the texture of the water, the color of the bear contrasting against the water, and better yet, the fish that is about to meet his/her demise. How envious I am! Fabulous!

Hello Harry,
your gallery is a true cave filled with beauties, I like much to go to look at these pretty photographs, and I await impatiently your new wonders

A classic shot, Harry, beautifully rendered. Very crisp detail here with a perfect DoF. This was then captured at the perfect moment -- the trout dropping into the water and the expression on the bear's face. Marvelous!

Hi Harry. A superb nature shot of the bear fishing. I saw this on Discovery channel recently so am interested to hear more about it and see a good still image from you. Murray.

Never mind, there will be another one... :)
This is an excellent capture for you, very good picture!

Wow... a classic only a few can afford!!! Well done Harry, a stunning shot!
Cheers, Luís.
