Yosemite Falls is the tallest waterfall in North America, and is a powerful presence in Yosemite Valley.

My first and only trip to Yosemite in 1983. It was just after bouncing back from a terrible 1 year long agoraphobic reaction which had me hospitalized. We went 8 hours east from the Mendocino coast in our station wagon (and 6 kids) following Jane's dad and mom in their old old motorhome. I had only a Pentax K1000 with the stock 35mm f1.2 Ashahi lens. I had both black and white and colour film but shot mostly black and white because colour images were hazy as you can see. The sky was full of white and white filled my lens..There was no way I could alter it or pretend I was Ansel and come back 4 dozen times for just the right moment, so I opted to take a few colour images of this is one of the only ones I had enlarged to 8x10.

This was taken late in the afternoon looking from the main section of the park up towards the NE at Yosemite Falls. It was quite impressive, but due to my lingering illness I was a bit nervous and did my best to smile. This trip however marked a long road upwards in mental health...until today as I am in 90 percent remission.

Scanned yesterday on Microtech Scanner i800

I was there nearly 10 years before you took this Bob.
In Aug'73 the Yosemite Fall was just a trickle and the Bridal Veil Fall was barely visible. A nice, professionally taken shot and fine reminder of my visit.
Thanks and enjoy your weekend,
Ivan

Hello Bob,
A very impressive waterfall, at first sight it looks like it would cut the rock in two parts. Great to see that this picture with its 25 years didn't loose its impact and that the colours are still fine.
un grand merci

Hi Bob,

An impressive shot of these wonderful falls. Is the sky always white? Looked just like that when I was there. A wonderful scan after all these years.

Hi Bob!

My wife and I were there one year earlier... So you can imagine the souvenirs and emotions this picture evokes to me. We were on our wedding trip. Last winter, I scanned the slides I had taken (Kodachrome 64) during this trip and there's one with these falls. I also remember that we couldn't afford to pass the night in the only hotel of the park. When I read your notes I can feel that this place and picture also rembers you some good souvenirs.

Kind regards

Markus

Hello Bob!
As I see today we both decided to present pictures of waterfalls. Your is the tallest in North America, my is the widest in Europe :>
As I see the weather conditions were not too good (strong sun I suppose), but it is still a very interesting picture. I really like to watch something new and not known for me, and this is one of these cases :)
TFS and have a nice Sunday!
Friendly yours,
Radomir

I've never been there Bob, but hopefully Rosie and I can see it in person someday. In the mean time I'll have to rely on your beautiful image and your description of the area.

Lovely shot!

Hi Bob
One of my favorite subjects to photograph.Very impressive waterfall and this is a great shot of it. Its amazing to see water falls of this size in real life and feel the power of them. The way you shot this you can almost feel it just seeing it. Thanks for sharing this.

Hello Bob,
From the last weeks I had a lot of photos to work off. This one I enjoy very well.
What a coincidence: I made a four days tracking through Yosemite (between the bears)in the same year 1983 and made some photos of this waterfall with my Pentax. I will search between the thousands of slides.
Great composition.
Kind regards,
Peter

Hi Bob,

The capture of the water movement is an asset to the composition. The water fall is nicely frame by the rocks. The lumiosity is giving a good contrast between the colors. Have a nice day.

Pierre
