•Length: 9 - 12 inches long
•Black sturdy bill
•Blue crest and upperparts
•Black eye line and breast band
•Grayish-white throat and underparts
•Bright blue wings with black bars and white patches
•Long blue tail with black bars and white corners
•Dark legs
•Migrates during the day in small flocks

The blue jay is bright blue on top and white to gray on its throat, chest and belly. It has a gray-blue crest on its head and black and white bars on its wings and tail. Its bill, legs and feet are black. It also has a black "necklace" on its lower throat.

Blue jays are found in Canada and in almost all of the United States east of the Rock Mountains. This bird is a migratory bird and northern populations will move south in the winter. It is common in deciduous forests but it is also found in residential areas.

The blue jay is very aggressive and territorial. Groups of blue jays often attack intruders and predators. They often drive other birds away from bird feeders. The blue jay is also very vocal. It makes a number of different calls including its distinctive "jay- jay." It also growls, whistles and chatters.

This blue jay was photographed in my way back from work in the front yard of a house that has bird feeders. It was attacking a mourning dove and trying to steal some of the seeds that the dove was eating.

Hi Jorge
Excellent capture by including both birds of the story line in our notes with ample details on each one. The DOF at f/16 worked well in this shot and you even had light to spare at 1/1250 shutter speed.
Good composition, nice colours, and excellent exposure (especially since it seems to have been a very bright midday sun you had to cope with). By what I can tell your camera clock is not indicating the correct time as the exif data states that this shot was taken at 22h28(?) at night.
Anyway, well done and TFS.

Beautiful shot, Jorge

looks that there is a bird feast going on there.
Blue jays are my favourite American bird.
Brilliant and happy colours.

Regards, Petru

Hi Jorge,
Excellent shot on this Blue Jay. Exposure looks spot on with the well saturated, and beautiful colors. Detail is very sharp. The DOF was excellent to get both birds well. This looks great!

Hello Jorge,
Great shot, very nice composition. I like POV, light, sharpness and colors a lot. TFS. Congratulations...
