Winter's morning sunrise over Red Rock Canyon:
Seen from the air just outside Las Vegas, on the way to Phoenix (thanks to Jane Magen [jaycee] for her help with the timing that set me on the road to placing this photo, for it appears that my camera was still set for Eastern Standard instead of Pacific Standard Time).

This was the vision that slowly wiped exhaustion from my heart and head that morning in January 2005. I had been delayed in Boston by the end of a snowstorm the night before, missed the connecting flight from Las Vegas to San Luis Obispo, California. I slept for about three hours and then I was off again, rerouted to Phoenix, frustrated and exhausted -- until I saw this from the window of the air plane, with colours to outdo any Las Vegas casino light show.
Suddenly the rerouting was worth it, for I'd never have seen the sunrise over the mountains like this otherwise, nor known that the glittering lights of the city are but a pale reflection of the true beauty of the countryside.

Thanks for looking and have a memorable day :)

Beautiful shot. I don't know where it might have been but I bet if we figure out what time you took off, time you took the photo and the route you flew, we can get a pretty good idea as to where this was. It would be fun to try to calculate!

Una excelente panorámica Silke.
Bello encuadre en esta linda imagen.
Buenos detalles aun en las circunstancias en que la tomaste.

Hi Silke,

The flight from Las Vegas to Phoenix is only a little longer than an hour. So you were very close to Vegas. My guess would be somewhere near Hoover Dam. It is a lovely scene very typical of Arizona and Nevada. The colors are gorgeous. Nice shot from a plane!

Jane

What a superb capture Silke, magnificent colours and cloud formations. Truly beautiful.
Cheers,
Debbie

Because of the sun setting it is pretty easy...It is just north of Dolan Springs Arizona. It is the highest mountain range that goes a bit from west to east'ish. It is always beautiful sight, specially at evening! You are already S of there. It doesn't take long by jet from LV to Phoenix...

I can see why this shot dazzles you to rest....Nice job and a good memory for your neurons eh?

Sorry I don't know the range of mountains... but I suspect if you look up Dolan Springs on an printed atlas you will see it just north of there... chances are that you were already routing before you were notified...

hi silke,
what a lovely shot, the colours in this post looks very beautiful, nice capture of the mountains and the clouds, nice composition,
well done,

Hi Silke,
I like the warm pastel-like colors I see.
Great light as mornings first rays hit the top of this mountain range...
A new day, a new way. Sounds like it's just what the doctor ordered ;)
Well done!

Hello Silke!

Monumental and beautifull. Place which I know only from tv [mainly from crime movies ;-)] looks even better than I thought. Perfect moment and perfect place. Lovely colours and light.

Hello Silke,
I must admit that this is a awesome panorama view of the mountain with clouds under you and the golden sunlight from an angle!
just take my breath away by just looking at it
I really enjoyed it and thanks for sharing, my friend!
best wishes to you always
Tony

Ahhh a wonderful place to leave a bridezilla who is causing trouble! A place where she can roam and twirl in her destructive nature! A place big enough to where we can enjoy it, and not even notice her. Beautiful!
