Crater Lake, in the Cascade Mountains of southern Oregon is one of the most beautiful places in the United States. It is also the deepest lake in the USA, with a maximum depth of 608 m (1996 ft). It has steep walls all around it, since it lies in the crater of the ancient volcano Mt. Mazama.
