[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I took this photo on a beautiful early autumn morning on Mount Hood. This is the south side view from the Timberline Lodge parking lot right before our hike up. Julie and I were only going on a day hike, and the clouds cleared up, but Mount Hood is notorious for changing weather quickly as are most mountains. One day in mid August my husband and I hiked up this same route on a bright HOT sunny day only to be hailed and snowed on, returning cold to our car.

So when hiking of climbing always be prepared for the weather. Carry the "10 essentials" plus extra protection for wind, rain and cold. Don't be too "goal oriented" and if bad weather comes in retreat and hike or climb another day.

The "10 Essentials +4" from Backpacking.net
The most important essential , however, is not on the list--"Common Sense". Having the right gear is one thing, knowing how and when to use it is quite another. Most often, it's not a person's equipment that saves their bacon. It's their experience, know-how, and good judgment.

Hi Lori,
that's a wonderful place, so silent, so wonderful with the clouds so deep, nobody to see, I like it. Just want to sit down and watch the clouds around the Peak, wonderful, thanks

Nice photo of Mt. Hood. I like the clouds and POV, makes you realize how steep it really is.

This is a nice sharp image Lori. There is great depth of focus in this shot, and nice natural color. It is always amazing just how many people get into so much trouble on Mount Hood! We've witnessed some real tragedies just this past year.... mostly folks who should have known better.
