I watched a Swainson Hawk nest throughout the summer on my visits to my home town of North Powder, Oregon. The Swainson Hawl is the most territorial hawk when it comes to their nest site. At first I did not see the hawk as I approached the nest from below and as I came within ten feet of the trunk one of the parents decided to drop from straight up-12 o'clock high and attempt to take my head off as it descendedthrough the branches of the two trees. This Red-Winged Blackbird did not like the hawk in its nesting territory either and had had enough of its intrusion and pestered it for quite some time before the hawk decided to fly off in search of a Golden Ground Squirrel that it appeared with a short time later for the chicks. It took me three days before the parents would trust me enough to stand near the tree, and when I did they did not hesitate to fly over me with a warning when I came tooo close. Now a Great Horned Owl has taken over the nest.
I used a 400 mm 5.6 and Fujichrome 100 to take this shot.

Hi,

great capture, but i think that the sky is too much saturated... It seems not to be natural. We are on treknature isn't it?

Hi Steven, great moment you got, it must have been impressive. It is true, it's too much saturated which occupies the eye and misses the beauty of the moment. The poses of the birds are great.Thank you!

Great moment Steven, but the sky is not natural, the bird is over exposed in the high lights so the sky can't be that deep. Well done,
