[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This photo was taken on my last trip to the nest site in Eastern Oregon near my home town of North Powder. This eyess was within a couple of weeks of flying for the first time when I photographed it standing at the edge of the nest. As you can see by its posture that I had been accepted near the nest site as long as I stayed at least 20' away from the base of the tree. If I dared approach it any closer the parents would dive from either straight up above me or would fly a distanc down the road from me and gain elevation and as it approached drop in altitude and nearly take my hat off my head. At first it was a little unnerving to have those large talons aimed for my head, then I learned my distance and they were more forgiving for my intrusion, and I was grateful for their image. |
