[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Time for a photo not taken at the Gahr Farm. This was our first trip to the beach. On arrival at Pacific city we first watched a Bold Eagle and some Turkey Vultures buzzing around our head at the Nestucca River. We then moved on to the coast and by luck drove straight to the parking lot near Haystack Rock. The wind was blowing very strong and my legs got scrubbed before I was able to reach the lee side of cape Kiwanda.

Since it was a bright day and morning light was long gone, I decided to use my ND 3.0 filter. This stops down the light by 10 stops allowing for extreme slow shutter speeds. I took two exposures with different speeds so that each zone would get the proper amount of light. For this particular photo I used a shutter speed of 60 seconds and 31 seconds. The photos were then merged to get this final result.

Hello Niek
It is beautiful. Fantastic landscape. I like low POV and great depth of view. Beautiful place and great mesmerizing photo
Best wishes

ohhhh Fantastic Niek.
The filter worked well keeping the light soft. I like the look of the sand and waves and the big rock in the distance add interest to the horizon. What a beautiful place. Well done.

Hello Niek,

A beautiful scene with nice natural landscape details. Well done & TFS.

Hello Niek,

Lovely shot of the landscape with wonderful harmony of the colors all around!

The sharpness and POV are nearly ideal with natural and soft colors of the cliff are well shown. I like the isolated rocky structure in the BG, it looks so wonderful and gives mood to the picture. Perfect blue sky adds another feather to your crown, indeed!
Overall, a wonderful composition!

Thanks for posting.

best greetings,
Paras Bhalla

Hello Niek,
So this is what a great landscape photographer can do. We were here last Sptember but I couldn't for the life of me take anything that even comes close to this, Superb Niek.
Thank you, Rick

Hi Niek,

I remember well the day you took this shot: 1. It was the day we met in person. 2. It made me very jealous and I immediately bought that filter!! I was in the same spot a couple of weeks later and it was so foggy we couldn't see the surf much less Haystack Rock.

It is a super image..good enough to make me get back onto TN! I doubt I'll ever get as fine a shot! Nice work! A+

Hi Niek,
Beautiful land- / seascape, and the way You used technique is simply brilliant. Fantastic image, something rarely seen, and something to be proud of. Excellent composition and POV, too. Bravo.

Hi Niek,
great to see a seascape from you! Interesting technique you used to get an even long exposure here, the result is excellent.
Fine details front to back from the f/16 and a well chosen POV. I particularly like the cloud hugging the headland in the distance.

What an awesome composition, Niek!
You simply stand out with this awesome shot, bro!

Hi niek,

I really like all the different elements of this shot that converge together making an excellent composition.

I particularly like the contrast between the swirling patterns of the sand and the fine detail in the rocky foreground.
