[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Saturday Tom Peak and I ventured to the Clarno and Painted Hills Units of the John Day Fossil Beds in Central Oregon. This scene was taken on the northern fringes of the Unit along the banks of one of the most beautiful lakesides I have ever laid witness to. The Painted Hills are beyond description to any other landscape when it comes to natural color and textures to a photographer and or painter. There are so many variations to each image we see from here, the light changes the appearance of the terrain and the color per seconds, not notably recognized in a landscape such as mountain scenes or seascapes.
Everyone that loves a challenge and natural beauty should visit the three Units of the John Day Fossil Beds, the Clarno, the Sheeprock where the headquarters is located as is the newer Thomas Condon Paleontology Museum, and my favorite, The Painted Hills.

The 5th through the 8th of June I have setup a Trek meeting for members interested in attending for the Sheeprock and Painted Hills. We have a Monument employee as a guide also into the Twickenham Basalt region on a three mile hike into a hidden canyon off the beaten track.
If you are interested in attending contact me at:

Hello Steven,
That's such an inviting picture to these marvellous Painted Hills and I hope you will have a lot of interested people for your meeting.
Wonderful "dégradé de couleurs" and vivid contrast formed by the black clouds. Excellent vertical framing too.
Un grand merci et bonne journée

Somehow I missed that you and Tom were together...it is a wonderful place...I have been throughly enjoying toms work and now yours! This is a place I enjoy seeing in image and video...but only when there from teh car and out the window...My age proceeds me in arthritis. Well shot sir!
