[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is the last in the series of my encounter with the Californian Sea Lion. Although the sea lion was very tired, he still had some strength in him to give me this classic pose. Soon after this photo we left and allowed him to get some rest.

The next day we spoke to our neighbors and told them about the encounter. They mentioned that in the many years they have lived here they've never saw a seal lion on the beach. They expect that this young sea lion was chased by a great white shark and eventually landed on the beach to rest. A larger male colony is found just south of here on some well-isolated rocks.

So I guess I got real lucky.

Hello Niek,
A fine portrait of this Californian Seal!
The low POV against the incoming roller BG is great and taken with excellent sharpness and lighting, infact the lighting puts this shot at a higher level than most.
Thanks and kind regards,
Ivan

Dear Niek!

Your picture attemps its real dimension and value through the fascinating narrative notes. The fact that you met this beautiful animal at a place where nobody saw one before is touching. Moreover, the pose of the sea lion and the light reflections on his skin are superb.

Kind regards

Markus

Superb shot, Niek, it's fantastic that you could photograph such a strong and beautiful animal of the ocean. The picture, as usual, is technically skilled, beautifully composed. Thank you!

Hi Niek

Very nice series of this gorgeous sea lion! Indeed you appeared to be very lucky but you also knew right on the spot how to work with this luck and got some really terrific shots! I've seen them on your website and i said to myself then that "boy, this had to have been a cool encounter!" :)
Superb pose captured here and excellent exposure control. The foamy waves create a lovely BG for this scene and make the sea lion stand out even better.

Bravo and TFS

It was lucky such a skilled photographer was there to catch this rare sighting ;o)
The light and texture of his wet skin really helps make this a lovely image, as well as the light from the time of day you took this. The breaking wave in the background shows you were thinking about everything that was going on in the frame in order to make as much as possible out of the scene before you, great timing.
Have a very good weekend my friend.

Hi Niek,
I forgot to slip my praise in. The portrait is the demonstration of a consummate photographer, knowing all about the symmetries/ asymmetries, dark/ light, the colors/ absence of colors. The dark wave as a background! Simply great, Niek.
My best regards
Dietrich

Hello Niek,

A well composed presentation with good details!
The animal gives a good pose too, not that he has many choices hehehe...
And the Pacific washing the Oregon shores makes a fine blurry background..!

Greetings,
Pablo -

Hello Niek !
Wow, what an awesomepicture ! I realy love the pose of the Sea Lio, he looks so proud, so majestic ! The water rolling into a wave, in the BG, is a wonderful bonus, and the soft light is just gorgeous ! Splendid atmosphere, and great moment captured with skill and talent. Very well done !

Hi Niek, The white of the wave makes an ideal backdrop for this dark-skinned seal. The crop is effective. TFS. Murray.
