Hi Horia,
I have to admit that this is a really ugly bird! But your picture is amazing , the sharpness and details are great, wonderful colors.
Well done

Hi Horia,
Great pose/pov of this Vulture.
Fine composition and color.
DOF is a bit shallow for my tastes.
Nice BG.

Hi Horia,
this is a striking image of this Hooded Vulture
I remember holding one of these at a Garden Centre once when a bird-of-prey show was running. I think I've still got the polaroid shot of me and the bird :)
+++ A great DOF... it looks like the beak-tip is stuck to your lens!
Superbly composed and a great POV.
Nice colours and lighting.
Once again a perfect capture from you :D
--- Nothing what-so-ever...
Great work mate.
Cheers,
Joe
Hi Horia.
I follow for your pictures, taken with Sigma 70-300 with great interest. Using of this lens is too difficult thing than use of Sigma 17-70. First of all about DOF. It is really a bit shallow. But principal key is that DOF is too shallow always at close distance (it is a feature of all tele lenses). The shorter distance the shallower DOF. You must reduce aperture value when you shoot from close distance (or increase the shooting distance when light conditions are bad and then use crop). I think the focus is not exact too because of only the tip of a beak is extremely sharp. You can see I use f/7.1 or f/8 for sparrow shooting. Head of vulture is large I suppose.
Now about other features of the shot. It is amazing. I like the pose, turn of the head and glance of the bird a lot. The level of the blurriness of the feathers and BG are superb as well as the colours of the picture and its composition. All in all I love this shot and your desire to photograph despite the weather and light conditions. My compliments and TFS.
Yours Alexei.

Your notes are always so very complete. The photo information I am finding is a help to me. A good portrait for a casted villain in the cinema world as well as literature..Always a symbolic bird.

Hello . very short of time just got home from work so just saying a great picture well done TFS.
Nick..
Hi Horia,
An excellent profile portrait mf. The POV, comp, color, exposure, and BG couldn't be better.
I did a quick WS, selecting the area around the eye up to the beak joint and applied some sharpening. Since the eye is the focal point of your comp, I thought it might improve the post.
Well done,
Howard

Hi Horia,
I love this kind of close ups!
You caught a lot of details on his incredidible textured skin.
The curved beak its so particular and contributes to balance the composition.
Congratulations and thanks for share it.
My best regards,
JM

When were you in Portland? I live just south of there. We are not very impressed with the Portland zoo but you managed to get a super angle on this vulture. I love the tilt of the head. It makes a dynamic composition. I wish the eye were just a little bit sharper but then the tip of the beak probably would have been OOF.

Hi Horia,
good god look at that beak! Nature's design with a specific purpose in it's purest form! Your timing here is what makes this a great shot in my opinion. The pose of the Vulture's head lets us see as much detail as possible and the pinkish colour of his skin is great. Very well composed too, good work.

Hi Horia,
A beautiful portrait of hooded vulture. Nicely captured with excellent details and composition. 5 years back we had plenty of common vultures here in our city but now surprisingly not a single one is visible here. Thanks a lot for sharing.

bonjour horia
laurent
Excellent sideview shot, did some workshop for you just to show the detail on the eye hope you dont mind...
Well done...

Well focused with very good DOF.
The eye contact is super with god catch light.
Exceptional plumage colour and detail.
Nicely cropped and composed.

Hello Horai !
This is not exactly a beautiful bird, but you managed to get a wonderful picture ! Nice details, natural colors, excellent composition and POV, but what I like most is the pose and the expression of the bird - ha has not this sharp look that is so typical to most birds of prey. He rather looks curious. I also like the blurred BG, which makes the bird stand out so nicely. Very well done !
Valerie.
