I can't brag about the quality of this image, but I do like the colors, textures, and the horizontal layers of the composition. The yellows and tans seem to say "autumn," but this is spring at Summer Lake.

Summer Lake Wildlife Refuge, an oasis in central Oregon, is the feeding station for thousands of migratory birds as well as a year round home to many species. Over 220 species of birds visit or live here. We've seen a lot of them on occasion but not on this visit. We saw avocet, sandhill crane, great horned owl and various species of ducks and geese this time.

The rainfall at Summer Lake averages about 12 inches per year and the lake is surrounded by the sage brush of the high desert. Snow and rainfall on Winter Ridge to the west of the lake, feed the lake basin. Lake level drops considerably during the dry season.

Hi Evelynn,
a beautiful selection of tones and composed very nicely. The area in the far background behind those golden trees is great, adds some interesting texture.

I like the way the zoom compresses those all together. The yellow trees in the bg really look like aspen in autumn, so it is a bit season-confused. I might be tempted to try a horizontal crop w/o the fg [just to drive you crazy!]. Let me play with a WS...

Hello Evelynn,
Again a most interesting composition (I like people who break rules!)The light is so sublime, the atmosphere so special. Well seen

Yes your right as usual. The textures and horizons vary and yet subtle from one to the next. A nice thing to be able to spend later years in same field of love and study.

TFS and best wishes, Ulla

Hi Evelynn,
The colors of the tree and grasses are really fantastic. As you mentioned yourself, the quality is that good. I do like the idea of Mike in his WS. Did you by any change did het a zoomed version of this strange but wonderful looking piece of nature? I am thinking that this might actually work in B/W.

What a wonderful shot, Evelynn.

The colours are stunning and those 2 bushes at the top are A1. they add so much to the shot it is incredible. I love Mike's WS... It adds such a sense of space to the photo, but I also love the layers in this one as well...
