It has been days wince I have felt like going out. Yesterday was sunny but we had grand parenting to do....and so today Jane and I promised each other to go out and see what a winter here where we broke a record for high temperature in the Middle of winter.

This picture is on the North end of what is called "Long Lake". Long lake is part lake and part wetlands year around. On a normal year we see dozens if not hundreds of birds. today as I stepped out of my car to take pictures I heard only the sound of a single crow....I saw no birds in the water nor in the trees. I saw no mammals at all.....although hauntingly stark for what should be under 2 feet of snow....it had it's own beauty which by fortune I could grab on my Leica. The image has been cropped a bit for aesthetic reasons.... and a quote from a recent poem

"The rain here leaves everything dark
and scented as bitter chocolate:
old rust of fallen logs, mossed-fir,
bark and humus of the forest floor.
From stone rivers past autumn--
still more than a trickle through the deep sheen
of pebbles; dock and sorrel along the bank
slippery in decay; birds silent, or gone.

-Dixie Partridge 1999

Hi Robert,
that's a wonderful place and you had done well to go out there. I also wonder that we have not much snow this year. The northern parts of Germany have much more snow - and they had no snow at all in the last years.
So thanks and enjoy your weekend

Hello Bob,
What a difference from last year as far as your snowfall. I think we have gotten all that you were supposed to get and more.
A beautifully composed image full of fine detail and contrasting colors. Love the reflections in the water and the amber colored cattails which line the shoreline.

Hi Bob. I glad you have been able to get out and take a car drive. As you say you have had very little snow compared with this time last year. A fine picture of the lake with the tall trees in the back ground. Well taken TFs.

Hi Bob,

Shhhhhhh - plenty of winter left for snow! I don't know what breaking a record up there means but it looks cold enough for me. A beautiful scene with wonderful reflections of the trees in the water. Say hi to Jane for me!

Hello Bob,
You didn't have snow, we got so much I can't remember, maybe since 1963.
Beautiful photo in splendid natural colours. Great sharpness and well chosen composition. Good POV and DOF.
Regards,
Peter

Hello Bob,
Sorry, I missed this shot. Happy to read that you went out again. No snow, but the water seems to be slightly frozen or is this just an impression?
There is something magical in the reflections and colors of this shot. I'm sure the birds and animal are still there, they just were resting :-)
Have a nice Sunday
Anne

Hi Bob

The reflection s on the water of the lake are assets to the composition. The point of view is leading my eyes toward the trees which is giving depth to the scenery. The cloudy sky is giving a good contrast to the colors. Have a nice day.
