Volcano or Hot Spring!!
|[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note|
|Vast field of surface geothermal pools. The underground aquifers are close to the hot underlying magma that heats the water. Pressure in some situations build, and results in periodic release of pressure in the form of a guyser, i.e., Old Faithful. The edge of these underground source geothermal hot spring's temperatures differ from the more central source of the water. The closer to the edge, the cooler the water. The bacteria/fungi that proliferated does so in its own microenvironment whose temperature is suitable for its biology. Thus you often see banding of colors of different species. The mineral deposits also influence the species present, i.e., sulphur.|
