Another picture of my little hummingbird friend who came to visit me in my backyard last summer. Here he is trying to check on the accuracy of his aim, after he did that to me.

Anna's Hummingbird
Calypte anna

Underside View

Description:
Anna's Hummingbirds are iridescent bronzy green above and grayish white below, with a varying amount of green wash at the flanks. Males have a deep rose-red crown and gorget that extends to the sides of the neck. Females may have some red feathers at the throat, but none on the crown. Wings and tail are dark, with the female's tail feathers tipped with white.

Cool fact:
Originally found only on the Pacific slope from Baja California to San Francisco, Anna's Hummingbird has increased its population and expanded its breeding range in recent years to Vancouver, British Colombia, east to southern Arizona. This expansion has been abetted by the introduction of exotic flowering plants, especially Eucalyptus, red-hot-poker (Tritoma) and tree tobacco (Nicotiana glauca), and by the proliferation of hummingbird feeders.

Hi Manyee,
Very nice shot of this hummingbird, I think that you were lucky, because I have never seen that they sit on a branch.
Great job.

Hello ManYee,
Great closeup.
Nice metallic greens and well composed with good details.
I like the blue BG, pose, and POV as well :)
I did a quick WS, just to see how the bird would look without the OOF branches FG left corner..
Well done & TFS.

Hello Manyee,

Very well done picture of this nice hummingbird! Excellent composition and exposition! You had an excellent pov in order to see it like that! Personnally I will have removed the branch in the left with PS and I find also that there are lots of noise in the bg (easily removable by a noise remover program).

Good pic and TFS,

Michel

Nice closeup of this hummer. You captured the iridescence and details very well. Image has some artifact in the lower left, not too sure what it is? Still a great closeup of these small and delicate birds. :)

Perfectos detalles y magnífico fondo.
Bellos colores y buena nota informativa.

Hi Manyee

Lovely shot - great DOF, good colours. pose etc.

James

Neat shot Manyee. Remember to always stay away from the backside of birds....it does nothing for your lens should it get hit! Background seems a bit noisy. If you have PS CS2 you may want to try the Shadow/Highlight tool.

bonjour manyee
bravo pour cette tres belle photo, jolies couleurs et reflets, excellent netteté.
le WS de howard a apporté un plus.

Hi Manyee

This is a spendid shot of this beautiful hummingbird.
I really like the pose you captured it in here and the clear awareness one can read on its face. The composition you managed is outstanding and i personally like the inclusion of the out-of-focus branches on the left - they somehow give a natural evnironment feeling (i think that without them it looks a bit like a studio shot).
Anyway, beside the composition, the charming and wonderfully saturated colors are another strong point, as well as the very good sharpness of the details.
The catch-light in its eye is lovely, too and the note and the reference to the other post with it is great and very funny :))
The only nit i find to this post is the very slight grain or noise in the BG (most likely due to the sharpen) but it's really no big deal.

Bravo and TFS

Hi Manyee,

Gorgeous bird well photographed. I love the iridescent colours and amazing streamlined shape of this specimen. You give us a nice background, however, the foreground branch on the left is a bit distracting.
Nice work getting this guy before he whizzed off!

Simon

Dear Manyee, It is beautiful. Amazing details of feathers etc.
Thanks.
with best regards.vab.

I have never seen such a bird before. It looks sad or dejected. :(
anyway, focus and sharpness are great. The green seems to shine.
A little noisy?

Hi ManYee

Seems to me you do not learn from your mistakes. Once again you were standing at the wrong side of this pooper friend of yours, right in the line-of-fire. Thinking about it, you are well known to grovel in the dirt for the cause of photography so, maybe you calculated your risks and concluded that the possible fringe fire might be an acceptable risk (chuckle). Anyway, the way I see it is that this guy was giving you a good look over the shoulder in order to adjust his aim for the bulls-eye hit (or was it the ManYee-eye in this case).

The ever present and lovely "Californian-blue-sky" as BG adds to the visual stimulus of the shot. The composition is pleasing with the branch coming in from the right side bottom corner to "deliver" the lovely hummingbird into the shot. The colours are great showing the stunning luminosity of the plumage on the birds back and the details are well defined. With the shutter speed at 1/1600 it is clear that you had to contain a very bright sun light and it is obvious that you succeeded very well in doing so.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
