[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is a Hummingbird Clearwing Moth and is almost always mistaken for a Hummingbird at first and sometimes second glance. It moves like a Hummingbird when nectaring at the flowers and here the host flower is Verbena. There is a similar species in the Clearwing family that has different coloring and is called the Snowberry Clearwing Moth. I usually start to see them around late July and throughout August in our warmest weather here in New England. I have only seen them a couple of times this year and wonder if our cooler than normal summer has caused this.

I am sure some of you will want to sharpen this photo and be my guest...I enjoy seeing what others do, but I like to sharpen only to a certain degree as in my eyes it looks more natural.

A beautiful image Lesley.
Very nice colors , very good composition and is quite sharp.
Very good note too.
I don't know why you don't want to get out the maximum of your very good equipment.
This image is almost perfect , just miss a little sharpenss and if you look at the histogram it miss a little black.
I dare to make a WS

/ Gert

Great "action" picture. Good composition and nice colors

Very nice Lesley, one of the most detailed shots of one of these hovering I've seen. The moth looks fine , some bits of the verbena are a little over exposed, but otherwise spot on.

Lesley c'est vraiment impressionnant, je beaucoup de plaisir ŕ regarder tes belles images.Super

Dear Leslie,

I do not know how you managed to get such a beautiful picture of this moth that is always on the move. I had tried my best in the past to get a clear picture of the Hummingbird Moth with limited success.
