The Monarch Butterfly

Danaus plexippus

Most predators have learned that the monarch butterfly makes a poisonous snack. The toxins from the monarch's milkweed diet have given the butterfly this defense. In either the caterpillar or butterfly stage the monarch needs no camouflage because it takes in toxins from the milkweed and is poisonous to predators. Many animals advertise their poisonous nature with bright colors... just like the monarch!

Very nice composition. Excellent well-saturated colors. Nice low POV.

Hi Angelina,
Beautiful shot. It is sharply focused and well composed. You resisted the all too common trend to center the butterfly in the frame. That would have been a much less interesting composition than the way that you did it. You might consider making it just a little bit lighter.

Nice capture of the tounge? sucking nectar from the flower. Focus and color are terrific. I never knew they were toxic.

Hi Angelina,
nice composition, great colours and focus .
have nice week end
Giorgio

Your composition here is quite good, but there appears to be some digital noise in the shot. I'd also suggest brightening up the colours a bit to make it pop out some more.
I did a bit of a WS, so you can see what I mean. Enjoying the E-500?
