This picture is dedicated to my friend Loot.
A beautiful flower from his corner of the world,
a bloom that radiates STRENGTH and HOPE. : )

Leucospermum 'Veld Fire'
Pincushion Protea Leucospermum

The protea was named after the Greek god Proteus, who had the ability to transform himself into many different shapes. And since proteas do come in many shapes and sizes, they are an apt tribute to his legend. The flowers of these startling plants seem rather mythological themselves, like blooms from an alien landscape. Yet they are very much of this planet, native to Africa and Australia. The African Old World genera include Protea, Leucospermum, and Leucadendron, among many others, while Banksia, Grevillea, and Hakea are found Down Under.

Proteas are considered to be among the oldest of flowering plants, and from the tall silver tree to the nodding pincushion, they have the allure of another time.

Hi ManYee,
The shape of this flower is just amazing. All the little curls and all those smaller flowers poping out again. This is just wonderful. What I really find interesting is the fact that you can see how the smaller flowers grow. The top down composition really worked great. The colors and details are perfect.
TFS,
Niek

Hi ManYee

You are so generous and thoughtful MF and your timing is just perfect. This "bloom that radiates STRENGTH and HOPE" comes at the most appropriate time and I am grateful for your considerate and caring kindness. I will treasure and cherish it in days and weeks to come when the going might get tough and I might need a "lift-up".

It is a dazzlingly gorgeous flower, but then again so are all proteas from my "corner of the world", but it needs an ardent and experienced photographer such as you to capture that beauty and share it with us.

The bright flower stands out like a "sore thumb" against the dark BG and the coronet of serrated crown leaves. The lovely yellow upright styles spread out and emanate like little beams of light exploding from the hairy core that can really represent the sun radiating its life giving rays of light. The centrally placed flower works great in this composition. The colours are intensely brilliant and the well chosen DOF ensured that every bit of fabulous details are exceptionally clear and "pin" sharp. The exposure levels are perfect and it brought out the great contrast in the flower, from the pure white hairy flower heads to the darker folds in the flower and the vegetation.

Excellent work and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Bonjour Manyee,
Wow ! This macro is original and superb ! The centered composition works well here.
The "+++" : composition, subject & its form, POV, colors, sharpness, DOF, contrast against the dark BG, ligh & exposure, useful note...
The "-" : nothing...
Bravo mon Amie et merci pour le partage.
Christian

Hello Manyee,
the density of structures, the depth of colours, the powerful simplicity of composition are most fascinating. More than perfect light and exposure, stunning depth of field, the bright furry blossoms explode from a background of gentle deep darkness. This is wonderful.
Thank you! With best regards,
Peter

Hi Manyee,
