Welcome new neighbour!!!

We put up a new nest box yesterday and this little guy and his lovely wife have come to stay. These birds used to be fairly common but non native species like the sparrow and european starling have reduced populations by taking over habitat.

This couple is facing harassment from the robin who dive bombs them. However, they have built a nest all day today - much to my delight. They even charged a squirrel when it got too close to the nest box ... pretty amazing!

Mrs Bluebird is not quite as attractive and is looking rather poorly right now .. she looks thin and tired. No wonder as she is doing all the work to build the nest while Mr Bluebird stands by in all his glory.

More pics to come as my little neighbours settle in!

Hello Liezel,
Isn't is amazing how quickly the superb little birds took up residence. The image is fabulous, although it is a bit of a pity that its legs aren't in the image. Never mind. Glorious all the same and great to read that you are helping the environment by putting up nesting boxes. I have done that a lot in my life time too.

Hello Liezel,
This is a superb portrait of the birdie here.
I like its turned head that shows off a nice profile.
Good details.
TFS & Cheers

How lucky you are to have such beautiful neighbors so soon. The soft natural colors are amazing. The focus is excellent with nice detail in feathers. Nice little glint in eye. Outstanding DOF and perfect background. I look forward to seeing more of your neighbors.

Hi Liezel,
Very nice close up shot of this cute little bird. Lovely natural colors.

Hi Liezel,

Maybe common for you,but it is the first time since I see a bird like this, well exposed and focussed, only I would have prefered to see the crop a bit different (imo it woud have been better to show all of the bird or make the crop even a bit tighther),tfs

Beautifull bird with great colours
In WS I cropped the upperpart, gave some more sharpness and better contrast
Great picture
