[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This little Garter Snake or Common Garden Snake is peeking out to see if the coast is clear for it to come out for a while. There are several Garters that live in the low stone wall that surrounds the butterfly/hummingbird garden at the Audubon sanctuary I frequent. These snakes are most benefical to the ecology of the garden by eating insects that would harm the plants.

I took this photo along with several others as my therapy for my extreme fear of snakes. I am trying to calm my panic when I see one by photographing the small harmless ones, although any large snake I see will have be moving faster than the speed of light out of it's vicinity. For many years I have had snake phobia, so I imagine it will take more than a few photo shoots to get over the fear.

I like your photo. Very nice colors and composition. The DOF is also very good. Good job!

Lesley, Beautiful snake shot with very good DOF centered around the snake. Hope your snake fright is getting less by now. I could be worth while to try if a crop on teh left side would improve the shot. I like the two stems of grass just before the snake.
greetings, Jan

Hi Lesley
Beautifull critter, like the note too. I would crop some bottom to get rid of the OOF rock, maybe a wee bit top. just for ipact improvement. But mr Leggless id super. Have you looked at my post of the Cape Cobra?

Lesley, this is one of the most interesting notes I've ever read here. Well written and sincere. I did enjoy it. I hope you overcome your fear(s).

As for the picture, excellent POV and sharpness, as well as composition. BG is okay too. Finally, I appreciated the sense of humor in the title.

(I'm rooting for you.)
