I've had good luck finding new roost trees near my home. This large dead pine tree may be the best yet, it is huge. Woodpeckers have started excavating nest cavities in the trunk, and the hawks obviously like the old tree. The landowner doesn't mind my sitting there.
Dead trees are a valuable part of the ecosystem, many birds and animals depend on them for survival.
