[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
naskataket bay is the small part of Atlantic ocean closing Buzzards' bay on the south side. Buzzards' bay is the bay delimited north by the south side of the cape cod peninsula and to the west bu the cosat of massachussets around mattapoisset
the east side of this bay is protected by West Island
so that currents and waves are relatively quiet compared to the open ocean towards Martha's Vineyard Nantucket and Elizabeth Island
The area is relatively densely lived in butthere are large areas still cultivated or marshland such as Widemarsh , which is a 28 acres privately owned area . protected from development by a state regulation so that its country nature willbe preserved
the names still derive from the indigenous indian establishments progressively reduced after the mayflower landing and the establishment of western populations . the nearest large town (6 miles off ) is new bedford, famous for the whaling industry and for having been home to herman melville
