Hello again everybody :)

After a very long series of landscapes (for me at least), i feel it's time to get back to some macros :)

This is one from my archives, taken back in the U.S. in that splendid habitat i found there - one i love reminding myself of.
I posted then a shot of this lovely species, too - Libellula quadrimaculata - the Four-spotted Chaser and i remember identifying it very easily because of these 4 elements:
- Small brown patch on the middle of the leading edge of each wing, this combined with the dark pterostigma is the origin of the name "Four-spotted Chaser"
- Brown tapering abdomen, becoming black towards the posterior end
- Yellow markings on sides of abdomen
- Dark brown patch at the base of the wings.
(just in case you ever see one and wonder what it is)

Other than that, i will not mention anything else about this species, since it's very common on TN and there are many great photos and notes about it.

Hope you'll like it :)

Hello Horia,
nice to see another wonderful 'classic' from you my friend, it won't be too long until this seasons beauties emerge!
You have as always caught some amazing detail and composed this very nicely. The background couldn't be any better. I am thinking of starting to give macro's a go myself this spring, would you recommend any lens in particular??
(One that won't leaving my financially crippled would be good!)
Cheers,
Paul

Hello Horia,
Nice one from your archives! I didn't know that L. quadrimaculata was found in N. America. We learn something every day here on TN!
You've been holding on to this one too long! The sharpness, POV, composition and BG are all top class to make it a fine image.
Thanks for sharing this,
Best wishes, Ivan

Buna Horia,

Este un macro foarte reusit. Profunzimea este bine aleasa si potrivita cu subiectul. Imi plac detaliile de pe abdomenul libelulei ca si culorile naturale pe care le-ai obtinut.

Toate cele bune,
Cristian

Hi Horia.
Classic for you subject and quality of the picture. All is wonderful but reproduction of the tiny hair even on the dragonfly tail it is fantastic. Wonderful diagonal composition, widest DOF, superb smooth colourfull BG, precise framing and impressive POV all of these is Horia, its skill and talent. Bravo, my friend.

Hello Horia
Lets take into consideration that although the S2 has a very good image stabilser but when you couple that with the close up filters you used this is just amazing taken handheld!!
The details on the subject are highlighted perfectly against what is a lovely background.
Top Work and TFS

G'day Horia!
What a great shot!
You've chosen a great POV so we can see each spot on the wing, markings on the back and large eyes.
Exceptional DOF and a great BG.
Nice colours and lighting.
Dynamic composition.
Great to see some macros from you my friend.
Cheers,
Joe

A perfect flying machine Horia, that bulging thorax full of flight muscles is most impressive, so are the light but strong wings. Your sharply focused image, from abdomen tip to those all-seeing eyes, conveys these characteristics nicely against that blurry, greenish BG. Thank you for sharing this excellent composition with us.
Regards,
Mehmet

Hi Horia!

You know that I personally prefer landscapes, but I'm glad to admit that this is an outstanding picture. The more I'm on TN the more I discover the beauties of insects and the advantages of the macro photography. And not later than since you posted this macro I also know you are a master at this kind! The composition with the parallels between the wings and the helve is so well seen. And I also appreciate the unity of the color tones.

Kind regards

Markus

I like how the dragonfly is the main focus and you have blurred out the b/g. You have angled the dragonfly just right. Good job,
Tawnie

Such a clear and clean photo.
The detail is immaculate.
I would love to get such a result as this with one of these beautiful insects.
I have tried, but never yet achieved it.

Thanks for sharing.

Roy
