I am lucky enough to live close to no less than two Great Blue Heron rookeries. The herons make their nests here every spring, atop the tall dead trees which fill swamp areas. This provides them with a great deal of protection from predators. Besides this, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park is wise enough to surround this rookery with fencing, to keep the spectators at a distance. Therefore I was forced to use a 300mm lens and at times the view is obstructed by the fence. Some touch up is generally reqired to the photos. Luckily, this one needed only cropping, sharpening, and a little boost to the color saturation due to a little overcast. These animals are great to watch, with their 7 foot wingspan and prehistoric-type flight movement. Get out and observe them if you ever have the chance! |

I really like this framing of the subject - follows that 3/4 rule that all great art supposedly adheres to.
