Nestling Cedar Waxwings

While camping last night, I discovered five baby Cedar Waxwings, two of which are still in the nest - and so far, none are flying yet. As I mentioned before, the Cedar Waxwing is my favorite bird.
The mother showed up as I was trying to climb on a guardrail for a better photo (we won't go into that except to say that I won't be joining the circus any time soon...) She had a large berry in her mouth and I wondered how she planned on feeding five hungry babies with one berry. I didn't get a chance to find out because she was startled to see me - just as I was startled to see her.
I wanted to get higher for a better photo, but I'm afraid my tiptoes will just have to do. Hopefully you'll get almost as much enjoyment seeing them as I did watching them. I managed to get several photos of them from different angles - and yes, I managed to get a photo of all the babies - though not all together. I got two and two, and then one single - but hey, I got 'em!
I had a blast camping. A Downy Woodpecker decided to spend the night in the tree above my site - and I even put up my own tent. Oh, okay, I had to be told that I needed to fit the ring into the bottom of my pole, but other than that? Terrific.
I wasn't able to get a decent capture of Woody because he kept walking around the tree, hopping from branch to branch. I gave up when I got dizzy and decided he was fun to watch, so putting my camera away, I stared up at the tree. Woody came out and stayed in plain sight. When I reached for my camera bag, he darted in between branches. Figures!
Needless to say, this photo was not taken on a tripod.
I'll share bits and pieces of my trip as I post over the next few days. :-)

What a wonderful gift of nature that #1 you finally got to go on a trek and #2 that you were able to capture a fine image and perhaps even more I am guessing..I only hope there are enough old timers around here to see your super work and those of us who know you, know how hard it is for you to get an opportunity as this...Congrats much!

You did a pretty good job to find those chicks throughout all that branches!
I like the rays of sun that covers them, and reveals its details.

Hi Kathy,
Hope you had a great time camping out. Nice job of capturing these two hungry babies.
I have a terrible time of getting birds to stay in focus whenever they are surrounded by branches like these. I see you didn't have any problems at all.
You can tell by their pose that they weren't paying any attention to you, their eyes are fixed on mama.
