[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Early morning photo of Bison grazing in Hayden Valley.
Yellowstone’s herd is sometimes called the only surviving wild population of bison. Though not fenced in, they are not exactly the same wild bison as when the park was new. The few bison left by 1900 were crossbred here with semi-domesticated animals from Texas and northern Montana in an early successful effort to undo damage to the environment. The restoration of the bison proved so successful, in fact, that by 1940 the park was giving them away to zoos.

Hi Gary
this photo has such an excellent looking atmosphere with a very well chosen crop making the most of your point of view.It is so evocative of what one would expect to see in the west. These animals are North America's largest mammals and can weight in at 2000lbs and sometimes even more than that.It appears to have been a foggy or smokey day when you took this shot and that makes the background more interesting to me.The colours and details are all well captured and thank you for sharing this wonderful view with us all.

Whatever Bob from Alberta said...double it for me...I am going to have to bump someone to get you on my fav's list and I rarely do that...You and your camera are totally Kewl..as my younger kids would say..Super Shot.

Hello Gary,
Fascinating image through the morning light and atmosphere...
Even semi-domesticated, they remain impressive animals..

Hello Gary,

There is such a fine atmosphere in your photo as you have chosen a good POV and an excelent time of the day. Light is very fine beibng filtered by what seems to be fog. Colors are very nice too completing the fine atmosphere of the photo.

Thank you for sharing,

I like the low point of view of these bison and the soft morning light. I'm glad to see three calves. We were there in May and the long winter had not yet let go. So many of the bison babies did not survive.
