|Having an itch you just gotta scratch is irritating - but when scratched, it sure feels good! This Northern Flicker is one of the birds that played with me back in December. Earlier one of his playmates played peek-a-boo with me, ducking under his wing, peering at me, then popping back out. (One previously posted...)|
This fellow decided to join in the game, but on his way up the steps to play, he had an itch that needed to be taken care of. Once sufficiently scratched, he continued up the steps and it became a game of 'pull the tail' - though I still am not sure who won.
Given there were so many around me, naming them was hard unless they were by themselves at the time of the capture - such as Scratchy, pictured here.
Their antics made me giggle then, and even now, when I look through my photos captured on that magnificent day, I still chuckle - and appreciate what a gift I'd been given. Ah, the world is such a beautiful place when one takes the time to look around, yes?
Seeing is believing - and simple often triumphs over the elaborate...
Hope you enjoy Scratchy, the itchy Flicker...
Enjoy your day!

Excellent title of this bird perched so well with well exposed details of the plumage. Unique timely capture and well done indeed.

Wonderful shot Kathy,
Very sharp with beautiful colors and just the right exposure!!
I can never seem to get a good shot of a mature flicker, they seem to be so elusive around here.
Thanks for posting this very interesting and detailed photo for all to enjoy viewing!!
Neat Kathy...You have hidden some real good shots..but I know how busy you have been with mom and many other things...all things considered this is number one!

great picture, great story that goes along with it. In Europe there are no equivalents to these interesting Flickers, so the picture is even more appreciated.
