This is a phenomena not to many people see. This picture was taken along the Fox River in Illinois. Early in the winter the river covers the lower part of the trees and freezes on top. Later, the river level drops and leaves these sheets of ice around the trees. The river runs North to South so you can see that the ice on the south side of the trees has melted much more than the north side. On some of the trees have multiple layers caused by the slow drop in the river. |
