[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
I located this dragonfly while walking back from the woods with my dog. Actually, it was in my yard! I thought it was a black petaltail, but after looking closer, I don't think that's correct. I think it might be a skimmer of some sort, but my book, while a good one, does not have a photo of this particular dragonfly.
They zip around fast (what else is new with these) and I nearly got whiplash following it around. I waited until it landed and finally got close enough to get a decent capture.
I loved the design of the wings and that's what I noticed (as it whacked me upside the head trying to fly by me) once I figured out what I'd been assaulted by!
Hopefully, somebody here can help me ID this fellow!
Thanks,
Kathy :-) |

Excellent image Kathy,
Very good detail and color with great exposure. I checked my guide book and I believe it's either a female Twelve Spotted Skimmer or a female Common Whitetail. TFS.

12 spotted sounds right.. I might have to go through a whole lot to find this one....I posted it not nearly as clearly as you have been doing...Now the tides have turned and you are the one teaching me...I am honored that you share your knowledge!

THis is a superb shot, presented beautifully (I love the central theme, which is quite rare)
Very sharp details!
Cheers, Kathy!
