Arina White-tailed Deer or Coues Deer (Odocoileus virginianus couesi)
I spent my Sunday at the Madera Canyon a sky island just south of Tucson (Jane!), what a marvelous place, awesome birds all over the place some I have never seem before. I'm posting this White-tailed Deer that like the birds around there are not afraid to pose. Have a great end of the week!
A Sky islands are mountains in ranges isolated by valleys in which other ecosystems are located. As a result, the mountain ecosystems are isolated from each other, and species can develop in parallel, as on island groups such as the Galápagos Islands.
The best known examples of sky islands are at the northern end of the Sierra Madre Occidental in New Mexico, Arizona, Chihuahua and Sonora on the U.S.-Mexico border. |
