If I drive West of my apartment 2 miles, then turn left and drive South, I pass 3 houses and then comes the edge of town and landscape changes as if one went through a portal of time and space. For these are the Western Plains. As I took this image I was approximately 7 miles SW of Cheney and it had all looked like this without the butte, or small hill....and then the hills continue to multiply until I reach the Palouse in about 30 miles. Between here and there is nothing but wildflower, wild grasses and as I took this image...far off to my East I cold hear an Elk as it made its mating call. Jane who sat in the car heard it was well.

The plant life is totally uncountable...I could see over 2 dozens colours alone and I'm sure I missed many and there were likely many other species with similar colours. I did see some wild sunflowers and daisys, some lupine, a whole lot of buried and very large basaltic rocks covered with lichen and grasses making the walking very hard.

Besides the elk calling, it was quiet. Sun was high and no breeze until just before I left. After the sun sets, the coyote come out and wait for an unsuspecting prey. Sometimes aroudn dawn they start to cry and yelp.
On certain days..back in my city I can hear them Cyotes just slightly over the morning swallows greeting the sun. It was a pleasant day...my mind went back 100 years to Indians riding painted ponies and buffalo running free...with a few old Anglo Homesteaders trying to find water to plant their meager crops....life is still here in the west...lots of life..lots of nature...a sight to behold on a sunny day...

I really enjoyed reading your notes while looking at the beautiful prairies filled with life. The dof is stupefying, thanks to you and your new Leica. REally, having that camera must be a real feast! I envy you, I just love beautiful cameras! ;-)) I like the composition in your picture, with just a tiny space for the sky, where the mountain almost touches the frame. It gives a sense of space and one feels for real the spread of the prairie. You live in a beautiful country, thank you!

Dear Bob,
I appreciate every bit of this beautiful landscape. Excellent depth of focus from foreground of vast Western plains to the partly cloudy sky beyond the hill. TFS

An impressive scene Bob.
I like the perspective, colours and composition. I'd be looking for bugs here as the plant life looks pretty diverse. Looks like you live like we do: at the edge of a housing community with easy access to the wild side.

Hello Bob,
What a magnificent and natural landscape, a place I would like to take some pictures. I'm sure there are many little bugs...:-). beautiful earth-colors with patches of green and blue and white spots of flowers. I love it.
Have a nice day. Kind regards

Namastay Bob,
A nice capture of this beautiful landscape. Lovely colors and very good composition. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Bob
Beautiful place and great photo. I like low POV, great colors, beautiful sky. Also perfect exposure

Hello Bob,
yes, "life is still here in the west";
what a wonderful picture of the Western Plains, i like this landscape very much, the rich colours of the flowers and grass are fantastic; POV, DOF and composition are excellent.
Best regards

Ciao Bob, splendid landscape with fantastic colors, beautiful composition from western plains, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Bob,

The composition is well divided, the field, the hill and the sky. The point of view leads our eyes through the field toward the hill which is giving depth to the composition. The good luminosity is enhancing the beauty of the colors. Have a nice day.

Hello Robert,

These landscapes have an appealing simplicity, and yet so complex if you go down on the details!
I like the variety of wild flowers, leading my eyes to the hilltop in the back, all resting under the fluffy summer clouds...
