[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This juvenile Osprey caught me by surprise as he left the telephone pole he'd been perched on, flying right above me.

His shadow caught my attention, so I looked up and got a single shot - and ducked!

He was not that high above me, and given my lack of depth perception, I thought he was closer than he actually was.

I did some unsharp, added a bit of contrast, and a simple crop from the right. His wing was outside the frame and he was moving at a pretty fast clip. I do enjoy the details in this capture, but had I been paying attention, I could have caught him as he lifted off - but my attention was on his Mama.

I am thankful I didn't fall on my butt as I leaned back to get a better look (while I was crouched) - Lord knows, I've done that enough! I didn't have my tripod with me - and wish I had - especially since I had a ride to this spot. Live and learn, right?

Hope you enjoy this Osprey.
Later and keep shooting!

Kathy :-)

Hi Kathy,

We have a tandem bike and as I ride in the back I have an obstructed view ahead. My husband was pointing out ducks to me. "Duck on the right." "Duck on the left" "Duck!" I'm looking for a duck whilst I get smacked in the head by a low hanging branch! Live and learn, right? : P

I think you did pretty well under the circumstances. Most of him is in the frame. I have lots of shots of tails or wing tips or just empty sky! You managed a lot of detail with a good exposure against the sky.

Incredible detail and color in this image Kathy!!
Seems like you looked up at just the right moment in order to capture this fine shot.
The Osprey is a beautiful bird of prey, thus you have posted a wonderful image to illustrate this point!! Great job!!

Hi Kathy
I think this is a very nice in-flight shot. Great detail and nice blue sky. I photograph a lot of Osprey and it takes a lot of patients' to get that one type of shot your looking for. Just when you think nothing going to happen and you take that little brake that's when it happens. :) But I think that's what makes wildlife photography so challenging and fun.
Well done,Kathy and TFS

Hi Kathy,
nice action shot, I love the lightness and detail you got from the osprey, for sure it is a hard effort and need a lot patience to get it since they fly pretty fast. The only small thing i want to critiques is the right wing is off from the frame, but overall this is is a superb capture, well done
