Our next stop on our four week vacation through Oregon was at Bend. We planned to have a stop at a larger city so that we could do some additional shopping and see more than only the outdoors. But, we are more drawn to nature so a few trips were made into the mountains.

I made this photo while on a trip along several lakes situated below the Three sisters. It was another typical summer day with a clear blue sky, high temperatures and harsh light to work with. It would have been nice if we had planned this trip on a different time of the day, but then meant departing too early or arriving too late. While traveling, you have to do with what you've got.

I just noticed I forgot to correct the lens distortion.

Hi Niek. Once again you have a beautiful compostion in this landscape. From the water upto the mountains and then the blue sky. Its all so clear with fine detail and such natural looking colours. I like the snow on the mountain top. Well done TFS.

Hallo Niek,

een mooie landschapsfoto.
Prachtige kleuren en mooie weerspiegelingen in het water.

groet Gert

Hello Niek,
What a beautiful landscape shown with this fine picture. I like the low point of view over the lake and in the back the mountain still covered by snow. And on both sides big pines like guards. Beautiful reflections too and an excellent sharpness all over the picture. Encore une fois très beau!
Have a nice evening

hello Niek
beautiful landscape,wonderful output!
TFS thanks for sharing

Hi Niek
Crystal clear water, a big blue sky including mountains and trees create this beautiful scene. Your right about having to deal with what you've got. We can't always be at the best places in the early morning or evening to capture the softer light. You did a great job with the lighting conditions. The mountain in the background looks like an old volcano.

Hi Niek

Yet another very beautiful shot presenting the gorgeous places you visited in your US vacation.
First of all, i must say i like this one better than the similar shot from TL - that one has a bit too much grass in the FG where as this one focuses more on that fallen log and leaves a better view for the reflection of the big mountain.
That aside, i think you managed some great shots again, despite the harsh mid-day light. The polarizer worked well to enhance the sky, saturate the colors beautifully as well as cut the reflection from the immediate FG. That i think is the key here, because it makes the rocks, grass and log stand out better but also it leaves the only one main thing reflected (further on) - the great mountain.
Very good work, as usual, my fiend!

Bravo and TFS

Hi Niek,
this kind of scene is what wide angle lenses were made for. Great interest from front to back with exceptional clarity and exposure. Great composition, you really looked and saw the best of this view with your framing - very well done.

Hello Niek,
You post a gorgeous image with beautiful colors and just the right amount of exposure. Super focus throughout the entire frame. Love the reflection in the water and the low POV you chose. Great work!!

What a GEM.
No need for more words!!!
You must be close to Alberta? Are we going to see you in person?

Hi Niek,

Ahhh.... the classic Sparks Lake photo. However.... I am somewhat embarrassed to say that I have NEVER been there!!! though I do live a tad closer to it than you!! It is like "pulling hen's teeth" to get my husband to go there. Some day perhaps.........

It is a beautifully exposed and focused image. I love the splash of green in the FG. I suppose adjusting for the distortion would eliminate the feeling that the image is rotated to the left. I suppose it is equally distorted on the right side but the taller trees on the left made it feel as if it is leaning that way. I'm sure you were using your little level which I have also purchased and have discovered that I really need!

You have posted so many shots that I will be some time catching up. We are leaving again this weekend for 2-3 weeks and I have that #@!$% presentation to prepare for Saturday, so I am backlogged on stuff!

On further inspection of my original I discovered more than just one red pixel. There was a blue one and several white ones. Thanks for the tip.

Evelynn : )

Dear Niek!

It's a long time ago I was for the last time in your gallery. It's a pleasure to discover your last postings. I like this picture very much, mainly because of the superb depth of view and the perspective created by the lines at the two sides of the picture.

From my point of view - and I know I'm almost the only one - I don't like the effect of the polaraizing filter on a sky. It gets too dark and is somehow "unnatural". I know that many photographers use this filter and I have also tried it out. But I prefer skies taken without it.

Kind regards

Hello Niek,
A truly wonderful capture across this lake to the mountain beyond! Excellent DOF, lovely crisp colours and an excellent composition.
Many thanks and regards, Ulla

Hello Niek,

The log in the lake and the dying fir to the left tell that this is unspoiled nature, far from cultivation of any kind!
And the scene makes a wonderful postcard with all elements in place, like the mirror lake, the snow-capped mountain and the virgin forest...
Well framed, good colours!

Hi Niek,
you have produced wonderful and powerful landscape scene. Honestly, when I first read the photographic books years ago, this is the type of landscape that I always see.
I hope there many of yours too in many of the books. They are beyonf my reach, in producing this type of beauty and mostly to find such a captivating landscape in my place. Trying to look for some, and trying to produce like yours too.
I must say youre not just an ordinary photographer.
