[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Everything outside is cold, frozen and snow covered here in North Eastern Ohio. Hopefully I can find some time to get out and take a few shots in the near future, but until then I decided to post some of my early spring bird photos.

This is one of my favorite birds to photograph, the Northern Baltimore Oriole. I took this shot while up at Magee Marsh near Toledo.

The Baltimore Oriole, Icterus galbula, is a small icterid blackbird which is on average 18 cm long and weighs 34 g. This bird received its name from the fact that the male's colors resemble those on the coat-of-arms of Lord Baltimore. At one time, this species and the Bullock's Oriole, Icterus bullockii, were considered to be a single species, the Northern Oriole.

Hi Ron

This is a lovely full side-on view of the Baltimore Oriole. These are really beautiful
and colourful birds and you managed to show us why it is one of your favourites. I
like the simplistic image with the green OOF leaves in the BG, the twig running at
the diagonal angle and then suddenly, nearby the 2/3 vertical plane, it turns down
on a vertical line, and the only other object in the image is the bird with the slightest
hint of a highlight in the eye.

To you and your loved ones I wish a wonderful, healthy, and a prosperous 2010.

Well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

This is as striking as the day I saw my first one at 3964 Riveredge Road...a small cottage on 1 acre near the metro parks...of course not called that back then. But after seeing this image and my memory banks...I do remember running into the cabin to ask my mother to come and see...and she told me..."Why Bobby! what a wonderful Baltimore Oriole you have seen...." and I felt special...just as this image does today Ron. god is interesting in the way he passes messages.....Good New Year to You and the family!
Bob
