[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
It's hard to believe that this is one of two top predators in Madagascar - the other being the Nile crocodile. It's a fossa, made popular or perhaps notorious by the animated film, Madagascar.
It will prey on small to medium animals including mammals, fish and birds and is particularly good at catching lemurs.
Previously thought to be nocturnal only, recent observations indicate the fossa have a pattern of activity known as cathemerality (nocturnal or diurnal), depending on season and prey availability.
Based on size, I think this must be either a female or juvenile male. I was able to find only one other fossa image on TN and that was behind a chain link fence. Taken through glass at Cincinnati Zoo & Biological Garden - handheld 1/32 sec at ISO 3200.

Hallo Greg
Thanks for sharing this interesting animal which I have only seen once or twice in magazines. It is indeed and only a pleasure to stop by and image that is captured so well, with great focus and composition. Details of the ears, snout, big eyes, whiskers but most of all the paws are well seen. The Fossa is without a doubt a striking animal with prominent features that cannot be missed. The tree trunk on which you have captured this beautiful animal rounds of this image to its best. Thanks for sharing. Best regards.
Anna
