The Viceroy can be found from June to July in northern Canada. It can be found from May to October in southern Canada and the northern United States It is found all year in southern Florida. In the southwestern United States, it is seen from April to November.

Hello Jane,
A fne capture of a Viceroy that mimics the Queen butterfly taken from a nice POV as it sucks up salts from the gravel. Excellent sharpness and natural colours in a fine composition.
These mimicking species are amazing in how closely they resemble their poisonous models.
Thanks for this fine contribution to TN!

Beautiful capture Jane of this Viceroy flaunting its beauty and giving a warning at the same time... :)

Hello Jane,
Nice photo of this butterfly in good sharpness and natural colours. Maybe your POV was a bit high, but this is a very good composition.

Hi Jane.
We have not this species in our region. It is really amazing and you managed to show all its beauties perfectly. Colours, details are fine as well as simple but very suitable surroundings. My best wishes and compliments.

Hello Jane,
nice shot with very good sharp picture and good composition Thanks for sharing.Best regards Siggi

Interestingly designed body or just very big. I may have seen one or two in my travels but until happening on your notes and image, would not have known it's ID, but back then I was in as much a hurry as kids today...maybe I simply didn't take time to notice. Now I have.

hello Jane
a beautiful coloured butterfly with good details and nice pose
great shot
greeting lou

Hi Jane,
A lovely capture of this viceroy butterfly. Very well captured with sharp details. It looks a bit like our common tiger butterfly here. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hi Jane
Viceroy is very beautiful butterfly. When I saw it in first time, I thought it belonged to a Danaus species. Because there are several Limenitis species in Turkiye, I saw one of them in nature and other in book; yours is very different from them. After reading your notes, I understand my idea was wrong and this was mimicric butterfly. thanks for sharing this information and of course this very nice shot. nice details and POV. coloration and composition also very nice. thanks again. best regards

Hello Jane,

i'd first to see an Monarch butterfly but this one looks almost the same?
Good low pov and dof, razor sharpness with much details.
Fine colours.

Hallo Jane,
a very good capture of the Viceroy, marvellous natural colours and good contrast, a very nice composition.
Best regards
