[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
ID: probably Lepiota cristata (Bolton) P. Kumm. Thanks László for the ID.

I photographed this mushroom while walking through my shady backyard. I was rather casual about taking the shot, and could have composed this better. Next season I will take my fungi photography more seriously.

On a lighter note, it is Christmas morning here and it is snowing!

Thanks for taking a look.

Ciao Paul, lovely mushroom with wonderful light, splenid natural colors and excellent sharpness, very well done my friend, ciao Silvio

Hi Paul,

Great shot with nice exposure, showing a Lepiota, most probably Lepiota cristata (Bolton) P. Kumm.. The background infos are too few (size? odour?) so I can't be 100% sure. The named species is small, having cap diameter from 2 to 6 centimeters, gills white, flesh doesn't change color on air after breaking. Odour like ethylene, which is even called "Lepiota cristata odour" in literature (some other, macroscopically different and less common species have exactly this kind of "attack against the nose", too). Not edible.

If you share the necessary background infos and I see I've mistaken, I'll come back with more proper identification - although, only from this photo the mushroom seems a very typical Lepiota cristata.

Best regards, László
