I know how difficult it is to catch these (I have a bunch of bad ones in my files:-), so, this is well done, Chris, even if, to my taste, the moth looks a bit noisy, probably due to selective oversharpening. Anyway, very good composition, with the sharp thistle on a nice background.

Sharp and detailed, good action blurring on the wings, just too noisey. Try running it through some noise reduction software like Neat Image (www.neatimage.com) to smooth it out and remove the noise.

Fabulous capture, it does look like a hummingbird, but you're right it is a moth. Awesome job focusing the proboscis.
Very nice capture of this moth... The insect is very sharp and with good details. This is an excellent composition to catch the moth while eating.
And as before said, there is some noise in the background.
Very well done!
PS: Ihave posted a workshop to your picture... I hope you don't mind.

Super capture...and could this moth have picked a prettier flower to feed from? I think not!

Wow, Chris. This is a fantastic shot. I really like the blur of the wings showing motion. I've never seen a moth this large. The composition, detail and colors are all very good. Well done from a fellow teacher! Thanks for sharing this great shot.

Good shot! I like the movement blur of the speedy wings as it gives the picture a sense of motion. Great colors, well composed and excellent details. I really thought this was a hummingbird when looking at the thumbnail. Well done & TFS!

Great shot!
Dificult to do!
Yes, it's a moth.
The specie is a Hyles livornica (Esper, 1779), from the Sphingidae Macroglossinae family.
Known as Striped Hawk-moth in english.
