I think Ron Warner has the right identification as the White Crowned Sparrow: Zenothrichia leucophrys. Thanks for the id Ron.

Although this specimen may be a juvenile, it struck me to be quite large. According to Nat'l Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds, this is the most studies bird in the West. It is widely distributed in North America.

Hello Mike,
I searched all my guide books and also quite a few sites on the web and I really don't believe this is a Harris Sparrow, but I could be wrong. I think it may be a juvenile White-crowned Sparrow.
