[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was one of those rare moments. On the jetty at Barnegat Light, New Jersey. One of the few places in the United States where you can see these ducks in winter. I happened to have lived within a few miles of here. On this very cold morning, the surf was very heavy. The ducks actually prefer the fast moving water and rough conditions! I was standing on the rocks (which is extremely dangerous in and of itself, let alone when trying to get close to these birds). I was timing the waves as they came in to try to get shots of them splashing over the birds. I got a few nice captures, this being the best.

Hi Eric what a handsome and dapper drake you grace TN with-outstanding!I like these ducks very much and there are no others that look quite like them.Reading your note tells me that they are tough little guys and living where they do in rough water probably keeps them safe from predators.I have seen and photoed them as well and I know your colours are spot on.The image is very sharp and clear and the dynamic of the water just makes it even more interesting.Thank you for sharing this handsome duck with us all,he is a keeper!
