Coluber constrictor (North American Racer, Eastern Racer).

This non-poisonous snake can move across the ground very quickly. I was entering my garden today and saw him in my row of peas (not much else up yet). Quickly ran into house to get camera and he was still there, so here is the results. These snakes are very timid and "race" away, so a long lens was needed to capture him. He/she was about 1.5 cm in diam. and about 20 inches long. Have seen much longer ones here in my yard.
